Our National Memberships

We are a member of:

  • The Australian Parents Council (APC) which promotes the role of, and advances the interests of, parents and families in children’s education, including in the non-government (Catholic and Independent) education sector.
  • Parents Australia Incorporated, a national charity which designs and facilitates parent engagement programs across all school sectors and the community services sector.

Australian Parents Council

The APC formed out of the 1962 ‘Goulburn Strike’ when the parents of 2000 Catholic students protested the injustice of them paying taxes but being denied government funding to support their children’s education. Aa a national organisation, the APC’s founding purpose was to continue the parent campaign for ‘freedom of school choice and a fair share of the public purse’.

I see the role of the Australian Parents Council and all its affiliates to be the guardian, the voice, the defender of parents’ rights (Founding member Brian Keating, 1987).

MISSION

To promote choice and quality in schooling, the equitable distribution of government funding for schooling, and effective partnerships to maximise schooling outcomes.

Parents Australia Incorporated

Parents Australia Incorporated is a national charity created by the Australian Parents Council in 2013.

Viewing empowerment as a human right, Parents Australia aims to empower the confidence and capacity of parents and families, especially in disadvantaged communities, to positively engage in their children’s learning, development and wellbeing.

It offers a range of practical programs that respond to the evidence on the beneficial effects of positive parent and family engagement, including its flagship program The Indigenous Parent Factor – Successful Learning in the Early Years at Home and School.
